There has been a significant increase in the number of tyres designed as directional. In essence this means the tyre is designed to only roll in one direction and so the properties of the tyre can be customised to this direction. In general the main benefit is increased performance with less noise and an imporvement in grip, also offering significant increases in directional stability and traction in snowy or icy conditions.
